Hi! Has your tormentor ever given you a gift that didn't make any sense? This could be because the gift was broken, 12 sizes too small or too big, a scent that they knew you don't like, or something that really needs to go into the garbage?...If this has happened or happens during the holidays, you are not alone!

Many scapegoats get garbage gifts from their tormentors. When you receive something like expired lotion, broken items, or clothes that are several sizes too small it can be disappointing, confusing, and frustrating.

There may be several reasons the narcissist/tormentor gives you garbage gifts, here a few:

1. They are hoping you get upset

If you receive a garbage gift and get upset, that is food for the narcissist. They are hoping you will get upset so they can flip it on you and use your response to tell others how ungrateful and difficult you are, or to start a huge fight with you that ends in them leaving you or sending you away.

2. They Don't Want to Spend Their Money On You

Ouch! This one is painful. When your tormentor does not care about you, your feelings, or your well being... they will not spend their money on you. When you receive your gift you can tell there was no thought behind your gift and they just got you "something" this really hurts, especially when you put so much thought into their gift.

3. It's a Power Move

When your tormentor gives you a garbage gift, it lets you know how little you mean to them. Scapegoats are taught to chase, so most scapegoats are not going to see through the tormentor's antics and instead they will stay silent and confused or be hurt and try to get answers. In the end, most scapegoats will end up trying harder to prove their love and loyalty while getting less and less from the tormentor.
